Tables for 1000 Trades, a new Birmingham bar

Plane Structure has been making a bespoke set of tables for a new bar in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, 1000 Trades.

We’ve used planks of air-dried English Oak to create a group of seven tables, which are inspired by the styling of both the Arts & Crafts movement and mid-20th century Modernism.

Big Art Project at Millennium Point

The Big Art Project will commission and install an iconic piece of public art for Birmingham, spearheaded by commission agents Eastside Projects.

Plane Structure has fabricated and installed an exhibition of the five short-listed artworks, currently on show at Millennium Point. The exhibition will then tour Birmingham, giving visitors the chance to have their say as to the winning design.

Oak door

We’ve been making an oak door as a replacement for a rather sad looking original which the owners had stripped and found to be not quite what they expected under the paint. It was constructed from our stock of English oak and the top panels will be glazed once installed next week.

Table

We’ve been working on some concepts for a standing height desk with Jewellery Quarter based architectural practice Bryant Priest Newman. It’s based upon the lapping joints of American trestle bridges.
