Fabricating Sonia Boyce’s In the Castle of My Skin at Eastside Projects

Fabricating the crystalline display structure that forms the central focus of Sonia Boyce’s In the Castle of My Skin exhibition at Eastside Projects.

The display system houses works by Boyce and artists including Anna Barham, Harold Offeh, Flora Parrott and Alberta Whittle alongside selected works from the Middlesbrough Collection at MIMA. The sculpture is based on the crystalline form of the mineral pyrite, known as Fool’s Gold, and is clad in wallpapers made by Boyce since the early 1990s.

Working alongside Boyce and curator Gavin Wade, Plane Structure designed, prototyped and installed this complicated display system, which is a sculpture in its own right.
