Flower display rack

I’ve created a flower display rack inspired by a piece seen at Sissinghurst last summer.

The original (bottom image) houses prize specimens in small vases, with labels to tell visitors what to look out for on their visit.

My version (top image) uses boiling tubes to create a more petite rack that sits happily on a shelf – it can hold three large stems or 6 smaller stems at a time. It’s made from douglas fir and with time and use it will age to a nice deep colour

Buildings at Biddulph Grange Garden

These two garden rooms – in the literal sense – are a highlight of Biddulph Grange Garden. A Victorian masterpiece of landscape architecture and design, Biddulph has a brilliant sense of humour: enter the Tudor-style cottage and it mysteriously turns into a Chinese tea house. These are Victorian follies in the best sense of the word.

Plane Structure Gallery launch

We’re transforming the upstairs of our building into three studio/workshops and an occasional gallery space. On Saturday we opened our doors for a preview exhibition, with furniture made in the Plane Structure workshop by Matt, and ceramics by Birmingham-based artist Kate Andrews.

Matt’s tables are made from a variety of hardwoods, inspired by modernist and arts & crafts design. Kate’s ceramics take their inspiration from mid-twentieth century brutalism and are hand-thrown on a potter’s wheel before being glazed.

Workshop / studios available from late summer 2016

Workshop and studio spaces are available for long or short lease, upstairs in Plane Structure.

The two self-contained spaces measure 12 sq/m and 18 sq/m and are suitable for designers and makers.

We’re sprucing up these workshop-studios now and they’ll be ready to let from late summer 2016.

This chimney breast is part of a set for Birmingham Royal Ballet’s current tourof The Taming of the Shrew. We created the plywood flats before hand-painting the finished effect.
