A commission to design and fabricate a flexible outdoor building for Lightwoods House in Bearwood, that can serve as a coffee shop, bar and food serving hut. Taking inspiration from Lightwoods’ 18th century and Edwardian architecture, our design uses wooden panels painted in a high-gloss finish to match the house’s exterior joinery, and roof shingles that echo fountains in the adjacent park. It will be finished with two leaded glass panels. The hut will have concealed fixed wheels with a jacking leg in each corner, allowing it to be moved around the garden and park as required.

Plane Structure is working with designers An Endless Supply to re-design the public factory tour at Wedgwood, Stoke on Trent. We are exploring possibilities to develop physical elements of the tour, including display furniture and signage. These images are from our factory visit in July 2020.

Fabrication of a series of Covid-19 protections for Eastside Projects, including a laminated panel to house a paper towel dispenser, plus adjustments to the reception desk to allow for social distancing.

Fabrication of Tea for II, an installation to mark VJ Day at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. We created a set of 20 tiled benches, designed by Ceramic Design students at Central St Martins college, and inspired by the Staffordshire pottery industry and the street parties that marked the end of World War II. The benches are made of exterior birch ply with hardwood edging, finished with tiles  reminiscent of traditional brown glazed tea pots, of the kind popularly used in the 1940s.

A set of projects that Matt made for his home during the Covid-19 Lockdown:

• A climbing frame with slide, made in a modular system so that it can be easily dismantled and stored when not in use;

• A shed, made of wooden panels painted black, with space for a glass window to be inserted;

• A vegetable trug made of English oak.
